Weight loss - Carbohydrate Blocker Supplements

weight loss

Carbohydrate Blocker Supplements are weight loss supplements that aim to reduce the absorption of carbohydrate molecules by the intestine, thereby limiting the calories taken in and making weight loss much easier to achieve. But not all Carbohydrate Blocker supplements are effective, so it is important to choose the right ones.

How do Carbohydrate Blocker supplements help weight loss?

The Phase 2 Carbohydrate Blocker Supplements are effective in weight loss because the whole concept is based on limiting the amount of calories taken in by reducing the quantity of the carbohydrate absorbed by the intestine. However, the original Carbohydrate Blocker Supplements were not as effective cause they relied on a protein called Phaseolamin. Phaseolamin is a high potency extract of white kidney beans, which reduces the intestine's starch-digesting enzyme called Alpha-Amylase. By reducing the amount of Alpha-Amylase in the body, the ingested carbohydrate is not fully digested sufficiently and is therefore passed through the intestine without absorption.

However, in reality the original Carbohydrate blocker supplements were not as effective as the laboratory tests showed them to be. This is because the tests carried out were test tube based rather than clinical trials. The clinical trials carried out proved that in reality the Phaseolamin protein was digested long before it was able to have any significant effect on the body's Alpha-Amylase enzyme. In addition to this, the research carried out by the Mayo Clinic showed that the dosage used in the original Carbohydrate Blocker Supplements were far too low, which have obviously been set for health reasons (Please note, it is highly dangerous to exceed the supplement's recommended dosage. Please follow the dosage as instructed by the supplement manufacturer). N.B. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO TAKE A HIGHER DOSSAGE OF THE SUPPLEMENT THAN RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURERS.

The next generation of Carbohydrate Blockers, known as "Carbohydrate Blocker Phase 2", was clinically shown to be far more effective than the original, as it uses a variant of Phaseolamin known as "Phaseolamin 2250". Phaseolamin 2250 has been shown to be more resilient to the digestive enzyme, thereby succeeding where the original failed. In fact the success of Phase 2 was such that in a double-blinded study of 60 participants, carried out over 30 days, resulted in an average weight loss of 2.93kg, as opposed to those on placebo.

The side effects of Carbohydrate Blocker Supplements

The original Carbohydrate Blockers had little side effects, as their dosage were too small and the active ingredient was digested before it had a chance to do anything. However, the Phase 2 is different and the side effects are similar to someone who is on a low Carb weight loss diet. Carbohydrates are an essential food group. The Phase 2 supplements could have the following side effects: Dehydration, Diarrhoea, Bloating and Cramping. A potential psychological side effect is that the Carb Blockers could encourage a person to eat more Carbohydrate than usual, due to the perception that they will not be digested. However, this creates bad dietary habits, which when the person stops taking the supplement, will result in greater weight gain.
