Sugar has a high GI, which means that they are not only relatively high in calories, but they raise the blood sugar too fast which then subsequently leads to a sudden drop in the blood sugar level, making the body feel hungry.
- Drink plenty of water.
The importance of water to weight loss is highly underrated, as people are oblivion to the role water plays in fat loss. About 80% of the body is water, and as such the whole body is designed to function optimally when it is hydrated. In addition to this, the body also knows that it can extract water from food, and therefore if the thirst sensation is ignored then the body triggers the hunger signals in an attempt to re-hydrate the body through food, resulting in excess calories being ingested. In addition to this, keeping hydrated helps the function of the kidneys and consequently the liver, whose function is to metabolise fat.
- Eat at least five portions of fruits and vegetables a day.

- Reduce Saturated fats but keep eating Essential Fatty Acids.
Not all fats are considered as "bad", this is because the body requires certain amount of fat to function (ranging from its use in hormonal regulatory systems to the digestion of fat-soluble vitamins). However, it is important to consume healthy fats and avoid the unhealthy ones. Fats that are to be avoided are known as Saturated. This is because Saturated fats have been shown to ultimately lead to obesity, blocked arteries and even cancer. In contrast, Essential Fats (or Essential Fatty Acids) are beneficial to the healthy functioning of the body. It is called Essential because the body cannot make these fatty acids in the body and therefore must be consumed through food. Examples of a good source of Essential Fatty acids are oily fish, shellfish, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, hemp oil, flaxseed, leafy vegetables and rapeseed.
